Govt to conduct town hall on FOI Bill review; probe into theme park accident to take months, say cops

• Putrajaya will organise a national town hall session on Sept 28 to involve more stakeholders and civil society members in reviewing the government’s Freedom of Information Bill (FOI).
  
  “This is because the bill constitutes an important reform that requires in-depth and balanced consideration to ensure that the framework established can be implemented effectively and responsibly, while taking into account public interests and relevant legal considerations,” said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina in a statement.
  
  The decision was made by the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on FOI in its fourth meeting earlier today, where it looked into feedback on major issues concerning the bill.

• Accident

• The police investigation into a roller coaster accident that left 10 people injured will take at least three to four months, said Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar.
  
  He said police have recorded statements from people including theme park employees, roller coaster staff, victims, and medical officers, and would not rule out calling in more individuals, particularly on technical aspects.
  

  

  The detailed investigation involves forensic teams, the state Occupational Safety and Health Department, and the Fire and Rescue Department.
