KOTA KINABALU: Authorities detained a man and seized 817 cloned credit cards at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here early today.
Sabah Police Commissioner Ramli Din, who announced the arrest and seizure on Twitter, said the man had arrived here from Hong Kong on an AirAsia flight.
A Hong Kong immigration departure card, seized from the man, stated he was born in Pahang and had an address in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
The 35-year-old man’s backpack was scanned and found to contain four boxes of the cloned cards, supposedly issued by several banks.
The man, suspected to be a mule for a cloned credit card syndicate, was handed over to police for further investigations, said Ramli.
Two mobile phones, a Malaysian passport and two purchase receipts, issued by retail outlets at the Hong Kong International Airport, were also confiscated from the suspect. -FMT
