PETALING JAYA: Actor and road activist Lando Zawawi has been arrested after he chained and locked the gate of the Petaling district land office in Section U5, Shah Alam, on Thursday.
Lando, whose full name is Azlan Sani Zawawi, said this was to protest against what he claimed was the government department’s failure to provide safe road conditions for the public, reported the New Straits Times.
“Lando, his pregnant wife and a friend were detained at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters on Friday after giving their statements to police,” Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said.
He said the trio were arrested after a report was lodged by the Petaling district land office, and that the case was being investigated under Section 324 and 506 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.
Fadzil said the three would be detained for 24 hours to facilitate investigations.
“Police will only request for a remand order if they find a need to,” he said.
According to Lando’s Facebook page, the actor went to the Petaling district land office on Thursday with his group of road activists called “The Brotherhood” to protest over poor road conditions in Persiaran Atmosfera, where the office is situated.
The video of Lando’s protest has since gone viral on social media, with over 250,000 Facebook users having viewed it so far. -FMT
