Azalina Says RoS Should Take Stern Action Against PPBM

(FMT) – The Registrar of Societies (RoS) should take stern action against PPBM for not adhering to the party’s constitution says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said.

She said this was only fair as no association or political party should ignore the rules or go against their constitution.

“We have set rules and regulations which must be followed and every new association registered with the RoS should understand the elements of constitutional law.

“It’s embarrassing for a political party with several law practitioners among its members, to not be advised on the rules and regulations in establishing a party.”

She said this to reporters after presenting mock cheques to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Combined Women’s Movement (GPW) and Youth Movements in the Pengerang parliamentary constituency, here today.

Azalina added that anyone could form an association or political party but it was not easy for them to comply with and follow the provisions contained in their constitution.

“Personally I think most of the people in the party are the kind to ‘strike while the iron is hot.’ When they fail to get what they want, they just form a new political party,” she said.

On Nov 1, eight PPBM Johor divisions submitted their complaints to the RoS on the failure of their party’s leadership to comply with provisions in the party’s constitution.

Yesterday, 10 more divisions lodged complaints with the RoS regarding discrepancies in the party’s constitution and the general assembly which had been postponed for another six months.

Among the grouses were on the use of the term Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) that was still awaiting RoS approval.
