KUANTAN: Three long-suffering farmers marched into the Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob’s office today to demand a solution to land woes in Cameron Highlands.
The Blue Valley farmers were accompanied by Cameron Highlands PSM secretary B Suresh.
Suresh said the farmers want permits to the land on which they have their farms and homes. They said they had been operating on the land for three generations.
Speaking to FMT, Suresh said not long after they arrived, the MB’s secretary, Nordin Ibrahim, brought them to his office to discuss a date to meet the MB.
“He wanted to set it for January but we insisted on an early date and he finally agreed to set it for Dec 12.”
In recent interviews, the farmers had complained that only certain people were given land permits and they demanded an explanation for the double standards.

The farmers also claimed Adnan had been trying to avoid them. They said the MB had agreed to an appointment on Oct 3 but had cancelled it the day earlier.
Suresh said the fact that the MB had cancelled the appointment brought into question his political motives.
“Is he waiting for the next general election to be over?
“We believe that Adnan will no longer be MB after the general election and so he’s trying to avoid the problem until then so that he can wash his hands of the matter.”
The three farmers present today were R Vellu Samy, 63, M Rajamma, 61, and N Kandasamy 70.
Kandasamy has already received a permit for his farm but he was present today to support the other farmers.
“We believe Adnan has bullied these farmers enough and if the matter is not settled then the people must rise up to demand their rights,” Suresh said. -FMT
