DAP members unhappy with re-election result told to submit complaints

SHAH ALAM: DAP members unhappy with the re-election held for the central executive committee (CEC) at a special congress yesterday can submit written complaints, said DAP Selangor publicity secretary Ng Suee Lim.
He said they should send their complaints through the proper party channels, following claims that some delegates did not receive the notice on the re-election.
Only about 54% of the qualified delegates, totalling 1,356, turned up at the special congress.
According to Grant Thornton, the independent auditor appointed to manage the re-election, a total of 2,514 notices for the re-election were sent out.
Ng said Selangor DAP members were on the whole satisfied with the conduct of the re-election and accepted the outcome.
“In the history of political party elections, only the DAP’s election had to be conducted by outsiders. This is because many groups are envious of DAP, forcing us to follow the directive of the Registrar of Societies (RoS),” he said.
In the re-election for the 20 positions in the CEC, 90% of the incumbent members were returned with only two new faces – former Selangor exco Ronnie Liu and Batu Gajah MP V Sivakumar.
The two replaced Skudai assemblyman Boo Cheng Hau and Karpal Singh who died in a road accident in 2014.
DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang headed the list of winners with 1,199 votes.
RoS ordered DAP to hold the re-election in a July 17 letter as it did not recognise the party’s CEC polls held on Dec 15, 2012 and again on Sept 29, 2013.
DAP was also instructed to use the list of 2,576 delegates approved in 2012 for yesterday’s re-election. -FMT
