In its second re-election since 2012, DAP delegates have chosen to retain 90 percent of its central executive committee (CEC), with party veteran Lim Kit Siang reclaiming the top spot.
The two individuals who are no longer in the CEC are former committee member Boo Cheng Hau, who got 384 votes, and late chairperson Karpal Singh, who died in a car accident in 2014.
Despite being deceased, Karpal still received 43 votes.
The newcomers replacing Boo and Karpal are Ronnie Liu, with 688 votes, and V Sivakumar, with 586 votes.
DAP grudgingly held the re-election on the instruction of the Registrar of Societies, due to supposed problems in the delegates’ list used for the 2013 re-election.
In 2013, DAP had voluntarily held a re-election, after an Excel spreadsheet error affected the results of the initial election held in 2012.
In the 2013 re-election, there was a surprise upset when Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong took the top spot in the party polls, above Kit Siang.
This time, however, Liew fell to fifth spot with 1,123 votes, while Kit Siang topped the list again with 1,199 votes.
Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo also climbed the ranks from fourth in the 2013 re-elections to second, losing to Kit Siang by only one vote, at 1,198.
While the 2013 re-election saw a total of 1,725 votes, this year’s re-election had 1,346 votes with 36 spoiled votes. The counting of the votes took about three hours, from 2pm to around 5pm.

8. Teresa Kok – 1,033 (13th)
9. Tan Kok Wai – 1,021 (16th)
10. Tony Pua – 1,020 (11th)
11. Nga Kor Ming – 967 (19th)
12. Fong Kui Lun – 949 (9th)
13. Chow Kon Yeow – 900 (8th)
14. M Kulasegaran – 826 (15th)
15. Chong Eng – 734 (14th)
16. Teng Chang Khim – 702 (10th)
17. Ronnie Liu – 688 (new)
