Ex-DAP rep attributes datukship to MCA's work in Sabah

Former DAP man Hiew King Cheu has credited MCA for the datukship he received last month from Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin.
“My datukship is not mine, but it is for MCA. MCA is recognised in Sabah, thus the chief minister and governor think MCA should be rewarded.
“Coincidently, the reward was bestowed upon me. Thank you,” Hiew told the MCA annual general assembly tonight.
Hiew, who is also Luyang assemblyperson, quit DAP in August 2013 before joining MCA in June 2014.
Speaking to delegates at the MCA headquarters, Hiew praised the party for working hard for the public, instead of being embroiled in an internal struggle like DAP.
“I see my MCA comrades are serving the people, they are selfless.
“When I was in DAP, they always say 'ubah' (change), but we say 'reform'. We want to be better and serve the people.
“DAP is best in internal fighting and backstabbing. I was backstabbed five to six times which made me leave DAP. I want to thank the president for asking me to join and serve MCA," he said.
Hiew, who was debating MCA president Liow Tiong Lai's policy speech, also urged the party to promote the advantages of the goods and services tax (GST), to counter the opposition's narrative on the matter.
He also asked the party to help its Sabah chapter win the Luyang and Kapayan state seats in the next general election.
DAP had previously contested and won both seats. However, just like Hiew, Kapayang assemblyperson Edwin Bosi has also quit the party.
“If you are free, we welcome you to help us. MCA has many good speakers, we need your help," Hiew said.
He elicited laughter from the audience when he joked that as a reward, he would reimburse any volunteer's flight ticket to Sabah.- Mkini
