Flood: PM Najib arrives in Penang, 32 stranded on Bkt Bendera

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak arrived in Penang this morning to assess the flood situation in the state.
Accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor and Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai, the prime minister landed at the Royal Malaysia Air Force base in Butterworth.
He was greeted by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
According to Bernama, Penang state secretary Farizan Darus updated the prime minister on the flood situation, which claimed seven lives.

Najib was also briefed by Penang Drainage and Irrigation Department director Sabri Abdul Mulukon on the causes and short-term remedies undertaken by the state.
He will head to Kampung Tanjung Putus in Permatang Pauh and Masjid Nyior Sebatang in Tasek Gelugor to visit the affected residents.
Meanwhile, 32 people have been stranded on Bukit Bendera since Saturday due to the flood and landslides.
According to the police, this includes two children and 10 senior citizens.
“We will try to bring them down through the hiking trail," said northeast district police chief Anuar Omar.
It was earlier reported that the Bukit Bendera management had suspended its operations after several landslides took place following Saturday's downpour.
