Steven Sim, coordinator of the state’s recently set-up flood relief unit, “Penang Bounces Back” (Penang Bangkit), said 59 private clinics in the state will give their services for free to those affected by the floods for the next four weeks, beginning today.
He said it was part of an initiative by the Malaysian Medical Association, Penang branch, and the Penang Medical Practitioners Society.
Sim said electronics companies Wah Lee and Pensonic will repair for free all spoilt electrical items belonging to the flood victims.
Wah Lee, a chain store, will also offer 12-month, interest-free plans for flood victims who wished to purchase a new TV, fridge or washing machine.
The store has offered to absorb the first two months’ instalments to ease the burden of the flood victims.
Pensonic has also contributed 700 rice cookers to the Penang Bounces Back flood relief unit and vowed to repair for free all products bearing its name that were damaged in the floods.
Those interested can visit penangbangkit.com or call hotlines 012-9117 300, 012-9117 304 and 012-9117 306 for more details.
