Guan Eng announces increased financial aid for flood victims

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today announced an increase in financial aid to victims of the recent floods which killed seven and displaced thousands, in the state.
He said the aid of RM700 - up RM200 from the previous RM500 - will benefit 100,000 flood victims, who are registered with the state government.
As of yesterday, the state received RM9.6 million in donations from various parties, and the amount was boosted with an RM350,000 donation from the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (Penang branch) today.
"We will be topping up the RM500 financial aid to RM700 and commercial water tariff will be fixed at a discount rate of 25 percent for two months, instead of one month as previously announced.
"We will probably record a deficit next year, due to the floods, because of the disaster. It would be difficult to record a surplus this year, as we annually do," he told reporters at the State Legislative Assembly.

State exco Phee Boon Poh also told reporters that the cash payment of RM400 for victims of the Sept 15 floods, will be disbursed on Nov 18 and 19, at various locations.
For those residing on Seberang Perai Utara, Tengah, Selatan and Southwest District, the aid can be collected on Nov 18, at their respective District and Land Offices, and the Public Works Department office, while Northwest District residents are urged to do so on the same, at Dewan Sekolah Sin Kang, Dewan Paya Terubong, and MPPP Pasar Awam multi-purpose hall in Padang Tembak.
Dato Keramat residents and those from Batu Lanchang and Sungai Pinang can collect their aid at the Komtar building and Bangunan Kang Har Tong (Ooi Association) from 9.30am to 3.30pm, said Phee.
According to him, aid for the Nov 4 and 5 floods will be issued by the end of this year.
He urged flood victims to register with the state government, to get the aid money.- Mkini
