Haj fees in 2018 to be maintained despite 15pct increase; Tabung Haji to subsidise RM400mil

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian pilgrims will continue to pay RM9,980 each to perform haj in 2018 despite the increase in cost.
Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Johan Abdullah said although the cost of haj has increased by 15 per cent to RM22,450 from RM19,550, pilgrims will continue to pay the same rate next year.
“The subsidy that will be given to first time pilgrims is RM12,470, 56 per cent of the actual cost, with haj pilgrims only paying RM9,980 which is 44 per cent of the pilgrimage cost.
“The rate has been in use since 2009 as part of the government’s initiative for people’s welfare,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Johan added that as part of its corporate social responsibility, TH would bear the subsidy of RM400 million.
