Help continues to pour in for Penang flood victims

Donations in cash and kind continue to pour for Penang flood victims, with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today receiving RM1.04 million from several donors.
The cash donations, among others, are from Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (RM800,000), Malaysian Moral Uplifting Society (RM80,000), Penang Moral Uplifting Society (RM60,000), and Selangor Kajang Temple (RM100,000).
Lim also announced receiving cheques for RM1 million and RM500,000 from the Selangor government and the Johor Football Association, respectively.
Apart from the cash contributions, Penang medical groups also announced that 59 clinics in the state will offer free medical treatment to the first 100 registered flood victims at each clinic (subject to the sole discretion of the doctor), for a month from today.

Electrical and electronic businesses Pensonic and Wah Lee chain stores, also extended help in the Penang Bangkit programme, by providing hundreds of rice cookers, discounts on spare parts for damaged goods, free labour charge for service and repair of items, as well as discounts on purchase of selected new items for flood victims.
Information regarding the donations can be found at www.penangbangkit.com.
Meanwhile, Lim urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to make good of his promise to consider approving RM1 billion for flood mitigation projects in Penang, following the tragic deluge that crippled the state on Nov 4 and 5.
At a press conference in the State Legislative Assembly today, Lim said the premier is yet to make any announcement pertaining to his remarks on the fund allocation, since his visit to the state on Nov 7.
“He has not made any announcements and we have yet to receive any funds, either for the state or for the victims, we hope he expedite the matter, and make an announcement soon,” said Lim.
During his visit, Najib did not promise the said funds, but said that 13 flood mitigation projects amounting to RM1 billion have been identified in the state, and added Putrajaya had already previously approved RM150 million for the purpose.- Mkini
