Jamal retracts 'Zuraida's boys hit me' claim

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos has retracted his allegation that he was assaulted by agents of Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin on Nov 13 last year.
The retraction was read out at the Kuala Lumpur High Court before Justice S Nantha Balan during the mediation process today.
The judge also recorded an undisclosed sum to be paid to Zuraida.
Zuraida had filed a defamation suit against Jamal on Nov 17 last year, seeking general and aggravated damages, as well as an injunction to stop Jamal from repeating the defamatory claims.
According to the statement, Jamal said in open court he had made the remarks in anger and that the situation at the time was tense.
Jamal also expressed regret and promised the court that there would be no repeat of his actions.
On Nov 13, Jamal and his supporters were pursuing Zuraida as she and PKR members were promoting the Nov 19 Bersih rally at the Ampang Point shopping mall.
A scuffle ensued when police tried to stop Jamal and his entourage, with the red shirts leader being left with a bloody nose.
Immediately after, Jamal could be heard shouting "polis tumbuk saya(the police punched me).
However, he told reporters later that "budak Zuraida pukul saya" (Zuraida's boys assaulted me) and threatened to "cincang" (mince) his assailants.
Zuraida was represented by lawyers N Surendran, Latheefa Koya and Shahid Adli Kamarudin, while V Mugunthan, Mohd Nasser Yusof appeared for Jamal.
