Man claims wife’s EPF account being ‘shared’ with another

SEREMBAN: A man in his 70s was puzzled after finding out that his wife’s Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account has been “shared” with an unknown male contributor.
Kampung Broga headman Yong Kim Leong said his wife, Tan Swee Gek, 55, made the shocking discovery during a visit to EPF’s branch in Kajang, Selangor, on Nov 1 to update her account.
In fact, he claimed that the name of the “mystery” man was also listed as a beneficiary in his wife’s account, along with his name and that of their son.
“My wife and I had agreed to withdraw all our savings as she has already reached the age of 55.
“The EPF officer (on duty) didn’t allow us to do so as there is another name (under her account)…
“This should not have happened,” he told a press conference at Wisma MCA Negeri Sembilan here today.
Seremban MCA chief Siow Koi Voon said he informed Deputy Finance Minister Lee Chee Leong, who is also MCA vice-president, about the incident last Sunday.
“On Tuesday, a special assistant to the deputy minister told us that the incident was probably due to an error during the key-in process of customers’ personal data in the computer.
“Perhaps, the employee had accidentally entered the wrong data. However, we will sort this out,” he said.
In the meantime, Siow also advised members of the public, particularly those who had not updated their personal information for quite some time, to do so now to ensure such a problem did not arise when doing claims in the future. -FMT
