The Meteorological Department (MET) has refuted online rumours that a massive storm will strike Penang over the next two days.
"Based on our latest observations, the department does not foresee a heavy storm... will happen in Penang," said MET director-general Alui Bahari in a statement today.
He urged the public not to spread rumours and to refer to his department's website or social media accounts for the latest weather updates.
Alternatively, MET's hotline can be reached at 1-300-22-1638.
Penang was struck by a heavy storm over the weekend which caused flooding in many parts of the state and seven fatalities.
Some have accused the department of failing to provide adequate warning, a charge which the department denies.
Checks on the department's Facebook page showed that a yellow alert was issued between Nov 1 to Nov 3 before it was escalated to red alert the day after.- Mkini
