AN Umno Supreme Council member has described lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan as “destructive to Malaysia” for her role as informant to Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.
Mohd Puad Zakarshi, who is also Batu Pahat MP, said Ambiga has become the source of “many lies” including the alleged transfer of RM90 million to the PAS leadership from Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“Ambiga was using her position as the former Bar Council president to lie to Malaysians – all to support the opposition .
“She has been the source of many lies including the claim that over 40,000 Bangladeshis were roped in as phantom voters (in the last election),” he said in a statement today.
On Oct 31, Rewcastle-Brown had named Ambiga in court as the source of information for the claim that top leaders in PAS had received money from Najib.
Ambiga had said that those who insisted her to come clean on the matter may see themselves being held for contempt of court.
According to Puad, Ambiga was only using sub judice and contempt of court as smart excuses not to respond to the claim in court.
He said the lawyer had in the past made many comments on cases involving Bersih without fearing the consequences of court action.
“She has no class and her ‘Datuk’ title should be stripped,” Puad said.
