PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution is reportedly set to become the new Penang Islamic Council (MAIPP) chairperson.
According to sources, Saifuddin will be replacing PAS' Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Salleh Man.
Salleh had held the position since 2012, back when PAS was still a partner to DAP and PKR.
Those familiar with the matter added, however, that Saifuddin's appointment is still pending the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's approval.
The PKR secretary-general is currently serving as Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's strategic advisor.
When contacted, Salleh said he had no information on the matter.
However, he said his contract with MAIPP is set to end at the end of the year.
"Whether my contract is renewed or not, that is up to the state government," he added.
Saifuddin also declined to comment on the matter.
"It should be announced by the state government or the state religious exco," he said.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Penang Islamic affairs exco Abdul Malik Kassim for comment.- Mkini
