Selangor BN reps submit memo to palace over rejection of motion

Selangor BN assemblypersons today submitted a memorandum to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to protest the State Legislative Assembly’s rejection of a motion to debate on Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s allegedly insulting remarks against the Bugis community.
Selangor BN coordinator, Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said the memorandum was also a mark of support for the sultan’s statement expressing his displeasure at the remarks made by the Pakatan Harapan chairperson.
“The State Assembly Speaker (Hannah Yeoh) had yesterday rejected the motion (submitted by Kuang assemblyman Abdul Shukor Idrus), citing it as a trivial and unreasonable issue, especially when stating it was of no public interest.
“To me, this issue is very important as it involves the sultan’s command, hence we felt compelled to submit the motion (to the State Assembly) on the matter so that Tuanku (sultan) knows that the BN assemblymen are always with Tuanku and support His Royal Highness in this matter.”
Mat Nadzari said this to reporters after handing the memorandum to the Selangor Sultan's private secretary, Mohamad Munir Bani, at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam.
On the call by Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali for the matter to be resolved amicably without the interference of the media, Mat Nadzari said the best place for it was the State Assembly.
"Yes, do it in the State Assembly...we are not hooligans. We are disciplined, and have morals, especially when talking about an issue which the sultan has voiced out against."
Mahathir had during a Harapan rally on Oct 14, called Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak a Bugis pirate, who should return to Sulawesi.
The jibe offended many in the Bugis community, including Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who said Mahathir should be probed for sedition.
Following this, it was reported that the police have opened an investigation paper to probe the former premier's remark.- Mkini
