S'GOR DUN | Selangor's new Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor (Kiss) will be far better than Putrajaya's Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) scheme, said exco member Dr Daroyah Alwi.
Daroyah said that those who qualify for Kiss will receive RM200 in subsidies for basic foodstuff and school attire valued at RM2,400 a year.
On the other hand, she said, the maximum payout for BR1M was only RM1,200.
"I wish to stress that Kiss is far better and more sustainable than BR1M. Mothers will be able to spend (an extra) RM200 monthly, which amounts to RM2,400 a year, compared to RM1,200 annually for BR1M.
"BR1M goes into the hands of the head of the family, not the mothers. We often hear stories about mothers who are unable to fully access (the BR1M money) because it has been spent by the fathers," she told the legislative assembly.
Daroyah, who is Sementa assemblyperson, was responding to a question by Rosni Sohar (BN-Hulu Bernam) on the similarities between Kiss and BR1M.
Daroyah said Kiss not only helps mothers but also shows that the state government recognises the role of mothers in household spending. -Mkini
