'Sex for favours': Accused faces axe from teaching profession if guilty

The former MIC branch chairperson accused of soliciting sex in return for favours could be sacked from the teaching profession if found guilty, Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, he said the 56-year-old Tamil school teacher has been transferred to the Education Department and assigned desk duties pending the completion of the probe.
“I have the audio clips and we are investigating.
“If he is found guilty, we will look into the harshest of punishments, including sacking him from the teaching profession. This is because he should never be near a school,” he added.
Kamalanathan also said the suspect's behaviour does not represent the 4,000 MIC branch chairpersons nationwide.
Meanwhile, PAS supporters' wing has also lodged a police report against the former MIC man who relinquished his party post following the widespread circulation of an audio recording.
The recording is of an alleged telephone conversation between the accused and a woman. The accused promised to secure employment for her daughter in exchange for sex with the girl.
In one of the clips, the accused boasted that he helped numerous girls who had just completed their SPM examination secure jobs after sleeping with him.
PAS supporters' wing chief N Balasubramaniam, who filed the report with Sentul district police headquarters this morning, said: “The police and Education Ministry must take stern action and investigate if others are involved as well.”

Meanwhile, PKR's Kapar member of parliament G Manivannan (photo) urged the police to take action following several reports made by different quarters.
"The police should probe the cases under the provision of rape, attempted rape and abuse of power because the case involved students," he said when debating Budget 2018 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
"Why (is it) the cops have yet to carry out (an) investigation? Why has the inspector-general of police not taken any action against this individual?" he asked.
"From one of the videos, we noticed that the deputy sport and youth minister (M Saravanan) described the man as mentally ill.
"But who is he to conduct an investigation? Since when has he become a psychologist and investigation officer?" he asked.- Mkini
