Teen: Cops beat me with rubber hose, poured toilet water into my nostrils

A teenager has accused the police of abuse when he was detained at the Kuala Selangor police lockup earlier this month.
K Jaayendiran, 18, lodged a police report over his allegation with the district headquarters this morning.
Accompanied by lawyer G Sivamalar, his family and Wanita PKR exco Juwairiya Zulkifli, the teenager, who was arrested in connection with a robbery case, urged the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters to set up an independent task force to probe the alleged abuse.
In his police report, sighted by Malaysiakini, Jaayendiran said his father A Kumaresan and him were detained on Nov 7 and remanded for eight days.

The teenager claimed that two plainclothes policemen beat him with a rubber hose for more than an hour when he refused to confess.
When he complained of pain and being thirsty, Jaayendiran claimed one officer kicked him while another poured water purportedly taken from the toilet bowl in the lockup into his nostrils.
The teenager claimed that the policemen were laughing at this point and one of them had allegedly said, “Nak minumminum. You nak air kan?” (You want to drink, drink. Didn't you want water?)
Kuala Selangor deputy police chief Mohd Asri Abdul Wahab said there is no proof that Jaayendiran was abused in custody.
"However, we will investigate the matter thoroughly to determine whether the incident did occur," he told Malaysiakini in a text message.
In his report, Jaayendiran, who claimed to be at home with his sister when the robbery took place, said he later confessed to the crime when the policemen allegedly threatened to beat up his father.

“I thought I would die in the lock-up that day. I had no choice but to confess to save my father and myself. My father and I did nothing wrong. We were mistreated,” read the report.
Jaayendiran said he remembered the faces of the policemen who were responsible for the alleged assault but did not know their names.
The teenager claimed that he continues to be traumatised by the ordeal. Jaayendiran and his father and were released on Nov 15.
According to Sivamalar, the police had cleared them of any wrongdoing.- Mkini
