We are monitoring Zakir Naik, says top cop

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun today confirmed that police are indeed monitoring controversial Indian preacher Zakir Naik.
"We just monitor his actions and movements, if there is anything that can threaten the country's security.
"We roughly know (about his whereabouts). Because he is a personality that attracts the security's attention," Fuzi told a press conference in Cheras today.
Noting that this was a sensitive matter, Fuzi said action will be taken, if necessary.
"Because everyone is free in the country to travel unless if there is anything related to security."

Fuzi (photo) also confirmed that police have yet to receive any official request for Zakir's extradition.
"How can extradition (proceed) if no request is made?"
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Wednesday said that the government would send Zakir back to India if there was a request from the Indian government.
Citing his visit to India, Zahid said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not make the request.
It was previously reported that the Indian government would seek Malaysia's help to extradite Zakir, who is wanted for allegedly funding terrorism.
Meanwhile, Fuzi confirmed that investigation papers in relation to the probe against Pertubuhan Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah Malaysia (Aswaja) president Zamihan Mat Zin have been sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
"We are waiting for further instructions (from the AGC)," he said.
Zamihan, last month, was arrested over his alleged racist lecture made at a mosque in Shah Alam.
He is being investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 for incitement.- Mkini
