Academic says BN to win more seats thanks to redelineation

GE14 | Academic Wong Chin Huat predicts that should the Election Commission’s latest redelineation report be passed, BN stands to increase its number of parliamentary seats in Peninsular Malaysia to 94.
In his presentation entitled “How Malaysia’s elections are being stolen” today, he revealed contents of the embargoedEC report and lambasted it for exacerbating malapportionment and gerrymandering.
Based on the EC's proposals, he predicted that BN would see an increase on the 86 peninsula seats it won in the 13th general election.
Meanwhile, the opposition coalition stands to win only 72 seats compared to the 80 they secured five years ago.
Wong also predicted that BN would retain Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis and the Federal Territories.
The opposition Pakatan Harapan would retain Penang and Selangor, while PAS would keep Kelantan, he added.

Wong admitted, however, that his was a “basic” prediction model based on assumptions that voter patterns had not changed since GE13.
It also did not take into account the many changes within the opposition coalition since then.
“These are based on three assumptions those being that all those who voted in GE13 will vote again, they will vote the same way they did and thirdly, only they would vote.
“If their choice is either the opposition or BN, this is the outcome.
“Now, of course, the assumptions are very strong but they might not be true… this is not cast in stone,” he said.
The EC's redelineation report is set to be debated in Parliament tomorrow. -Mkini
