'Bleeding' Deepak misses court again, granted final adjournment

Controversial carpet businessperson Deepak Jaikishian has missed a scheduled appearance at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur due to medical reasons once again.
His lawyer Shafee Abdullah informed the court that Deepak had been warded at the Kuala Lumpur Pantai Hospital yesterday and "was bleeding from at least one end".
A letter from a consulting physician and gastroenterologist from the hospital stated that Deepak had been admitted at the emergency ward complaining of "abdominal pain, nausea and severe anal pain with PR (rectal) bleeding for the past three days."
The diagnosis given was "Deep anal fissure. Recent food poisoning, acid peptic disease with post infectious irritability of the bowels", and that the businessperson could not attend court.
Justice Hue Siew Kheng granted a final adjournment on April 13, after taking a short recess to confirm that Deepak was indeed warded at the hospital.
"If he is ill once again, I want the attending doctor to turn up to explain," Hue said in adjourning the case.
This is the second time Deepak has postponed his scheduled testimony in a suit by A Santamil Selvi and her three children against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor and seven others including Deepak for loss of income and injury.
Santamil is the widow of private investigator P Balasubramaniam who was linked to the controversial murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibu.
Santamil and her children filed their suit last Aug 1, claiming injury and loss of income following the family's exile to India from 2008 to 2013.
They claimed they were forced to flee as they feared for their safety following Balasubramaniam's first and second statutory declarations (SD) to the authorities on the murder of Altantuya.
Deepak had missed his last court appearance on March 19 after vomiting blood at Shafee's office.
A medical report for that incident that Hue ordered Deepak to furnish has yet to be submitted.
Shafee said it would take some time for Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital to complete the report. - Mkini
