Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is said to be considering to settle a defamation suit filed against him by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
This was disclosed by Nurul Izzah's lawyer Sivarasa Rasiah today, which had been fixed to hear submissions on the matter as all witnesses of the plaintiff and defendant had finished testifying.
Sivarasa told reporters this after meeting Judicial Commissioner Faizah Jamaludin, senior federal counsel Nor Mastura Ayob and Zureen Elina Mohd Dom, who appeared for Ismail, in chambers.
There the parties were informed that Ismail was trying to settle the matter outside the court and needed more time.
Following that, Faizah fixed March 19 for the parties to come back to court to reveal the outcome.
However, Nurul Izzah's related suit on the matter, against former inspector-general Khalid Abu Bakar, is ongoing.
Nurul Izzah who is the Lembah Pantai MP, filed her suit on Nov 26, 2015, in which she claimed Khalid had uttered slanderous remarks about her at a press conference at Bukit Aman, the federal police headquarters, on Nov 22, 2015.
In her statement of claim, Nurul Izzah said the former IGP made the slanderous remarks a few days after a picture of her with Jacel Kiram, the daughter of former Sulu armed group head, Jamalul Kiram III, appeared.
The photo was taken at a function Nurul Izzah attended in the Philippines.
Nurul Izzah further claimed that on the same day (Nov 22, 2015), Ismail Sabri also made similarly slanderous remarks about her, at a press conference during a function in his Bera parliamentary constituency in Pahang. -Mkini
