SELFISH KU LI PUTS HIS PM DREAMS FIRST, MALAYSIA LAST: INSTEAD OF THROWING HIS SUPPORT BEHIND MAHATHIR, KELANTAN PRINCE ‘WORRIES’ FOR EX-PM’S HEALTH – CONVENIENTLY CLAIMS PAKATAN HAS ‘FEW’ LEADERS

TENGKU Razaleigh Hamzah is worried for Dr Mahathir Mohamad and fears the punishing pace of the the general election will take a toll on Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister designate, Utusan Malaysia reported today.
The Gua Musang MP said PH had few star campaigners and was depending on the former prime minister to draw the votes.
The Umno veteran said he could only pray for the 93-year-old’s health so that he could campaign for the polls.
“He was recently hospitalised. We don’t want his health to be affected, as this campaign will be more intense once it is in full swing.
“PH has few leaders – one in jail, one out here. Not many, just a few.
“This means (Dr Mahathir) will have to shoulder the responsibility. Looking at his position, health and age, (I ) feel sorry for him,”  Tengku Razaleigh was quoted as saying.
The two were once nemeses. Tengku Razaleigh challenged Dr Mahathir for the Umno presidency in 1987, but lost, causing a split in Umno. It led to the party being declared illegal by the court
Dr Mahathir subsequently established Umno Baru. Tengku Razaleigh set up Semangat 46 in 1989 but rejoined Umno in 1996.
Meanwhile, Tengku Razaleigh also told Utusan that it would not be easy for PH to fulfil its pledge to abolish the goods and services tax (GST).
PH has promised in its manifesto to scrap the GST within 100 days in office.
Tengku Razaleigh, who was finance minister from 1976 to 1984, asked the opposition what it had in mind to replace the tax that generated a yearly revenue of RM40 billion.
“What is PH going to replace it with? We also want to do away with the tax, but it generates revenue. So it is not easy,” he said.
