GE14 | The Bandar Tun Razak (BTR) MCA division today asked the party's central leadership to defend the parliamentary seat in the 14th general election (GE14).
"We urge MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, vice-president Wee Ka Siong and Federal Territory MCA chief Yew Teong Look to step forward to defend the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat, as well as the dignity of MCA," the division vice-chief Ng Choon Hua told a press conference today.
Earlier, the division pledged its support for its chief, Chew Yin Keen, to contest the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat in GE14 as the BN candidate.
This came after the three wings of the Bandar Tun Razak MCA, including its main and Youth and Wanita divisions, held an emergency meeting.
After the press conference, about 200 people gathered to show solidarity and shouted "support for Chew Yin Keen". They lifted Chew's hand and applauded from time to time.
No clear explanations from MCA leaders
Ng said MCA Bandar Tun Razak was also confused by Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's statement that "Umno will take one, give one for MCA" on the issue of the Bandar Tun Razak and Wangsa Maju seats.
"We have contacted Liow and Yew, but we could not get clear answers or explanations.
"Wangsa Maju constituency is originally an MCA constituency and it is only natural that Umno returns it to MCA after it lost the seat in the last general election. Bandar Tun Razak has always been an MCA constituency and should not be questioned, or used as a condition for seat swap.
"At the very last minute before the election, candidacy should not be in a haphazard manner, as this will only add confusion and affect the chances of BN winning," Ng said.
Asked if an Umno candidate would contest the seat in the end, Ng said if so, the MCA Bandar Tun Razak division would help he Umno candidate in the campaign for the sake of BN spirit.
"We will help BN candidate to make sure BN wins the seat," he stressed.
He said Liow contacted him after Tengku Adnan made his statement on the two parliamentary seats and asked him to be patient. - Mkini
