Battle of Nik Aziz's sons averted after mum pulls the plug

A potential clash between two sons of the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has been averted after their mother intervened.
Nik Omar, in an interview with Sinar Harian, said his mother Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak had refused to give her blessing for him to join politics.
It was previously speculated that Nik Omar would be joining PAS splinter party Amanah and may contest against his brother Nik Abduh, who is a PAS central committee member.
"It all depends on mother. As long as mother doesn't give her blessing and does not want me involved (in politics), I have to accept.
"Perhaps, mother is worried that there may be conflict (in the family)," he said.
Nik Abduh is the incumbent Pasir Mas MP, but there had been speculation that he could be moved to the Chempaka state seat, which his father held for 20 years until his death in 2015.
Amanah mooted fielding Nik Omar in the same seat if he had joined the party.
Nik Omar admitted that his thinking was different from the rest of his family, and therefore was seen to be in line with Amanah.
"I am still a lifelong PAS member since I returned from Egypt. If you ask me, I vote PAS.
"But to win in politics, we need alliances, but now PAS is alone," he said.
Nik Omar added that Pakatan Harapan, which Amanah is part of, has a strong alliance. - Mkini
