GE14 | After Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that he would contest the Gambir state seat, Johor BN has vowed to make sure the former deputy prime minister loses every seat he stands in.
According to Utusan Online, Johor BN chief Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that the coalition is determined to see Muhyiddin’s defeat, regardless of which seats he contests in the 14th general election.
“In general election, every party will make sure its opponent will not win. Just like he wants to make sure I lose, I also want him to lose.
“We will make sure Muhyiddin is defeated in any seat he contests.”
During a talk at a coffee shop in Bukit Gambir yesterday, Muhyiddin announced he would be contesting in the state seat, which could pave the way for him becoming Johor menteri besar, should Pakatan Harapan emerge victorious in the polls.
Muhyiddin had served as Johor menteri besar from 1986 to 1995, before being appointed to a federal post.
Harapan has thus far held off from naming a menteri besar candidate due to concerns of backlash from the Johor palace.
The incumbent Gambir assemblyperson is MIC's M Asojan, who won in 2013 with a razor-thin majority of 310 votes against PAS' Mahfodz Mohamed.
It is a mixed seat with 53 percent Malay and 40 percent Chinese voters.
Besides Gambir, Muhyiddin is also expected to defend his Pagoh parliamentary seat.
