Mahathir to contest in Langkawi

Former prime minister and Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be contesting in Langkawi in the upcoming general election, sources within the party told Malaysiakini.
According to sources close to Mahathir, the decision was made after a meeting last week.
"Yes, he will be going to Langkawi. Other seats were considered, including his former Kubang Pasu constituency and Putrajaya, but ultimately the decision was made to contest in Langkawi."
The 93-year-old Pakatan Harapan chairperson is scheduled to speak at a rally this April 13 in Kubang Pasu, Kedah, and will head to Langkawi on April 14 and 15 for another event.
The source also told Malaysiakini that the top Pakatan leadership will be joining him in the rally this Sunday, including Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
In the last general election in 2013, BN's Nawawi Ahmad won the seat with a large majority of 11,861 votes.
He was challenged by PKR's Ahmad Abdullah in the 91 percent Malay-majority area.
Mahathir was a seven-term Kubang Pasu MP from 1974 until his retirement in 2003.
Deputy Defence Minister Johari Baharum is the incumbent Kubang Pasu MP.  - Mkini
