Najib promises bikers 'no bridge toll' as 'blue wave' hits Penang

GE14 | BN's blue wave hit Balik Pulau, Penang, today with the arrival of caretaker prime minister Najib Razak and his entourage of Umno leaders ahead of polling say slated for May 9.
Umno leaders boasted of a 10,000-strong crowd at Najib's speech, during which he is poised to unveil 12 health projects.
Women in their bright red tudung and various federal agency staff occupied seats under white canopies when Najib arrived in SMK Seri Balik Pulau about 3.30pm.
"I come here not to see new bungalows or the undersea tunnel which is not built yet but to see to development brought by BN," Najib said when opening his speech, taking a direct swipe at caretaker Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
"No one can deny that we have a great track record to administer this country to greater heights," he added.
Although Najib did not mention names, he launched a tirade against former prime minister and Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, asking, "Who does he want to save Malaysia from?"
He said the opposition's manifesto talked about abolishing tolls to unburden the people.
"But who is the father of tolls? During my time, I did not increase tolls but reduced them. We are much better now than when we were under the previous 22-year administration," Najib said.
He then announced that if Penang is won back by BN, all motorcyclists will be exempted from toll charges at the two Penang bridges.
This promise, Najib said, will be added into the BN's GE14 manifesto, which was announced on April 7.
