Over 115k sign petition pleading Agong to delare May 9 public holiday

GE14 | As of 3.30pm, over 115,000 people have signed a petition pleading for the Yang diPertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V to declare polling day Wednesday, May 9, a public holiday.
The petition was launched around 4pm yesterday on the website Change.org.
"We believe that this action will allow as many Malaysians who would wish to vote the freedom necessary to do so without fear of repercussions.
"Moreover, the broad-based effect of a public holiday would level the field for businesses who might fear losing ground to their competitors, as all of them will be affected equally," the petition reads.
Arveent Kathirtchelvan, the person who started the petition, has also emailed details regarding the petition to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Agong's senior private secretary Nik Mohd Shafriman Nik Hassan, as well as caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his caretaker deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Election Commission's move to hold elections midweek had caused an uproar among Malaysians, especially outstation voters.
Several companies have since declared that they would grant leave to all their employees, while netizens are organising impromptu fundraisers to help Malaysians return home to vote.
The Malaysian Employers Federation has said that all companies must approvereasonable leave for their employees to go back to their home states for the elections. - Mkini
