PAS leader: Harapan dreams of tsunami by 'father of murdering democracy'

A PAS leader has dismissed Pakatan Harapan's claim that its chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is capable of generating a Malay tsunami which will tilt the balance of power in the coming general election as nothing more than a dream.
According to Ridhuan Mohd Nor, there is no difference between the former premier and the current prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak.
“If the current prime minister is accused of enriching himself and his family, what about Mahathir? Who does not know that his children and family are tycoons...,” he added.
The PAS central committee member pointed out that there is no shortage of allegations of corruption and abuse of power against Mahathir during his more than two decades in power.
“Who does know Mahathir with regard to the draconian ISA, stiffling the freedom of the press and expression, placing hurdles to peaceful public assemblies, murder in the Memali incident and others.
“In fact, Mahathir is considered 'bapa pembunuh demokrasi' (father of mudering democracy),” he added in a statement published in Harakah Online.
In short, Ridhuan described the current prime minister as a reflection of his predecessor.
“The current PM is 'copy and paste' (of Mahathir),” he added.
Based on this, the PAS leader said he is confident that the coming general election is open to all parties to compete for victory.
“We are confident that the tsunami is moving towards us (Gagasan Sejathera)... InsyaAllah (God willing), PAS will govern the nation after this,” he added.
As for Harapan, Ridhuan said the opposition coalition suffers from a leadership drought and is forced to hang on to Mahathir's coat-tails.
He also pointed out that Mahathir's reputation is not on par as Anwar Ibrahim's during the Reformasi era in 1998.
“The fact is many are of the opinion that Mahathir will not be able to create an impact on the national political landscape.
“Although he is a statesman and former prime minister he has many dark aspects which are questionable.
“With his age being almost 93, it has become the butt of jokes and ridicule... Many are guessing how long he would be able to steer the nation (if he becomes prime minister).
“If something untoward happens, the Election Commission must hold a by-election,” he added.  Mkini
