Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak playing a "Bugis warrior" won't get him off the hook with regard to the various allegations against him, said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
"What does it mean to be a warrior if you are branded to be among those who ruin the country. What is the meaning of being a warrior of there is corruption?
"What is the meaning of being a warrior if in your pocket is RM2.6 billion stolen from the people," Muhyiddin said in a video uploaded on Bersatu's official Facebook page.
Muhyiddin was responding to Najib who warned opponents not to court the wrath of a Bugis warrior during a gathering of silat practitioners in Gombak yesterday. Najib is also of Bugis descent.
Muhyiddin accused Najib (photo) of using the "Bugis warrior" line to deflect accusations against him.
"Instead of addressing (the issue), he claims to be a Bugis warrior, supposedly a Bugis warrior can do no wrong and is beyond reproach," he said.
However, Muhyiddin said the people couldn't care less whether Najib was a "Bugis warrior" or not.
"He needs to understand that the people are in a tough spot. They are hurting. They don't care whether you are a warrior or whatever you want to be.
"That is not on the minds of the people. It is their fate that matters," he said.
Najib had denied wrongdoing or taking public funds for personal gain.
He said the RM2.6 billion in his personal bank account was a "donation" from a member of the Saudi royal family
Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali had cleared Najib of wrongdoing and said the remaining sum of the money had been returned. -Mkini
