Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has announced that all civil servants will receive a bonus salary increment, equivalent to one annual raise effective July 1.
Najib said this will involve a cost of RM1.46 billion.
This was among a slew of goodies Najib announced for civil servants at a special address in Putrajaya today.
Among the other benefits is a one-off pension raise of one percent effective July 1, in addition to the two percent raise given in January.
"Even the 93-year-old retiree will get this," Najib said in a veiled jab at his archnemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Pakatan Harapan chairperson.
Other goodies the prime minister announced were:
- Reducing period for second time-based promotions for the implementer group from 13 years to 10 years;
- Creation of a new promotion grade, DG56, for education officers;
- Medical coverage for parents of government contract workers;
- RM3 million for Cuepacs yearly;
- Seven days off-record leave for religious purposes for all civil servants;
- RM1 million grant for each of three civil servants' pensioners associations; and
- Haj quota for pensioners to be based on the total haj quota allocated for Malaysia.
The goodies were announced as the nation prepares to face the 14th general election.
Najib is widely speculated to announce the dissolution of Parliament this Friday to make way for the election. - Mkini
