Shahidan keeps options open amid grassroots supporting him for Perlis MB

GE14 | Amid calls among the grassroots for Shahidan Kasim to take on the Perlis Menteri Besar mantle again, the minister in the Prime Minister's Department said it is up to the prime minister to decide whether he will contest in a parliament or state seat.
"Thank you for all the support and criticisms, I respect every opinion but the decision on where I'm going (to contest) is up to the prime minister.
"I do it all because of Allah. For me, wherever it is (I contest), I will accept.
"If I am asked to go back to a state seat, I go back to the state, if I am asked to go to the federal level, I go to the federal level.
"I am open. I have gone through the process of life. What I am doing now is not to want anything but to provide my services and perform as many good deeds as possible for my lasting afterlife," he said to Malaysiakini when contacted today.
Shahidan was previously the Perlis menteri besar for 13 years, from 1995 to 2008.
He is now the Arau MP, which he won in the 13th general election with a 1,371-majority against then PAS candidate Haron Din.
A Facebook page titled 'Support Dato Seri Shahidan Kassim for Perlis Real MB' was recently created to support Shahidan as the menteri besar in the state again.
That page has received 4,728 likes and 4,714 Facebook followers at the time of writing.
Among the posts uploaded on that page are Shahidan's contributions to the state as its menteri besar.
Aside from that, when asked which of the 15 Perlis state seats he might contest in the upcoming elections, he said he would like Sanglang or his former state seat Tambun Tulang.
Shahidan was previously in charge of Tambun Tulang since 1986.
The current Tambun Tulang assemblyperson is his brother, Ismail Kassim, who had won that seat in GE13 with a majority of 2,481 against a PKR candidate.
There are a total of 9,424 voters in the Tambun Tulang state seat.
The Sanglang state seat is currently held by PAS, which only received a majority of 121 against BN candidate Fathul Bari Mat Jahya.
This Malay-majority seat has 8,361 voters. -Mkini
