Sister of ex-soldier who ran amok apologises to Johor royal family

The family of a soldier who went on a shooting spree in Chow Kit more than three decades ago has apologised to the Johor royalty.
It was widely believed that private Adam Jafar had run amok after his brother was killed by the late Johor ruler Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail.
However, Adam's sister Hawa Jafar as quoted by Berita Harian that none of her siblings knew the ruler.
She also revealed that only one of her nine siblings had died, a sister who perished in a fire in 1975.
"I apologise to the family of Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for being caught in slander involving my brother, Private Adam," she told a press conference in Penang.
Speaking at her home in George Town, she clarified that Adam's rampage was due to problems at work.
"Adam ran amok in Chow Kit in 1987 because of work problems not because one of our siblings was killed by the late sultan.
"All our siblings are alive except for one who died in a fire," she said.
She also denied allegations that the family had received RM10,000 a month to deny that the late Sultan Iskandar had killed one of their siblings.
"Look at my home, we are just regular people. We have never received a single sen from anyone to deny this," she said.
One person was killed during Adam's shooting spree in Chow Kit as a result of random fire from his M16 rifle.
Author Syahril A Kadir had in his book Amok At Chow Kit said Adam had told him personally that his rampage was not triggered by Sultan Iskandar. - Mkini
