Rafidah Aziz has recalled a photograph depicting caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak asleep at the Asean Summit, following Umno information chief Annuar Musa's siesta swipe at Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The former minister forwarded a news report from the Philippines to Malaysiakini.
Dated Nov 22, 2017, the article stated that Najib was caught on camera snoozing during the speech of Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte at the 31st Asean Summit.
“The so-called leaders should not point fingers and use such trivial things in the run-up to the general election. We have very serious issues and problems to address.
“And Najib is only in his 60s,” said Rafidah.
Photographs of Najib falling asleep went viral on social media while a video was also posted on YouTube.
Earlier, Umno information chief Annuar Musa posted a photograph of Mahathir, 93, dozing off during a recent event.
In his Facebook posting, the incumbent Ketereh MP also recalled the former premier's remarks regarding his handpicked successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who suffers from sleep apnea.
“It is said that he is often ill, often coughs, sometimes forgets, sometimes falls asleep. Back then, he used to talk about Pak Lah (Abdullah), but now, look how great is God,” said Annuar.
Meanwhile, the article forwarded by Rafidah stated that Najib fell asleep during Duterte's opening remarks during the summit, which was held in Manila.
During the forty winks session, Najib was seated alongside other world leaders such as US President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
According to the article, Najib woke up when the rest applauded after Duterte ended his speech. - Mkini
