TMJ: Whatever you want at the supermarket on me, RM3k per head

There was a flurry of activity at Aeon Tebrau this evening, when Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim turned up at the supermarket and declared that he would pay for shoppers' groceries.
Tunku Ismail reportedly offered each person up to RM3,000 for their purchases, with the total bill coming up to around RM1 million, according to shoppers who shared their experiences on social media.
In a video of Tunku Ismail's visit, shoppers began crowding around the prince and chanted "TMJ" (Tengku Mahkota Putera).
Tunku Ismail then took a loudhailer and addressed the excited crowd.
"Whatever you want at the supermarket today is on me," he said.
The surprised crowd cheered wildly at his announcement.
Video and photographs have gone viral of long queues at the supermarket, as shoppers filled their carts to the brim.
Tunku Ismail arrived around 6.30pm, and his offer lasted until about 8pm.
The Facebook page of Johor Southern Tigers, a football club owned by Tunku Ismail, also shared scenes from the supermarket.
It also carried a statement by Tunku Ismail which read: "I am no politician, I do not need votes. But I genuinely love my people.
"Always with you Bangsar Johor. I am on Johor's side," he said.
Tunku Ismail had been in the limelight again of late after he said there was no need to change the engine of a ship simply because of a problematic skipper, in an apparent reference to the political scene.
He also rained criticism on Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, but did not name him.
However, several netizens expressed disagreement with the crown prince.
In a separate statement later, Tunku Ismail denied taking any sides of the political divide. - Mkini
