GE14 | Kelantan Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) rector Tuan Mohd Rosli Tuan Hassan has denied issuing a directive instructing lecturers and non-academic staff to attend a programme on the state Barisan National (BN) manifesto tonight.
"That is incorrect, it is a misunderstanding. I did not sign that letter (directive).
"Someone used my stamp with my signature. That is really dangerous. I will destroy that stamp," Tuan Mohd said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
According to a copy of the letter, which has gone viral on social media, Tuan Mohd had instructed lecturers as well as non-academic staff to attend a Kelantan BN manifesto programme taking place in Kota Bharu tonight.
Attendance was compulsory and would be recorded by the university, the letter further stated.
The letter apparently bore the signature of Tuan Mohd.
Tuan Mohd explained to Malaysiakini that he possesses many signature stamps for use when validating orders or certificates.
He claimed to have been unaware of the letter having gone viral until contacted by the media.
"I only got to know about it late last evening. So I was shocked. What can I do?
"When the letter went out, I was not in the office. Of course, I didn't sign it," he stressed.
New directive
However, Malaysiakini has been forwarded a second letter received by an UiTM staff who declined to be named, purportedly from Tuan Mohd once more.
The new letter, which was attached to an e-mail sent by university deputy rector Dr Suryani Awang, contained a new directive pertaining to tonight's attendance.
In it, the word "required (diwajibkan)" was changed to "invited".
"In reference to that, Associate Professor/Dr/Mr/Mrs (are) invited to attend the programme. Attendance at the programme will be recorded in the training hours," read the second letter.
The BN manifesto programme will be held at the Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) in Tunjong, Kota Bharu and is expected to involve some 20,000 supporters.
The manifesto will focus on youth and women as well as land, infrastructure and Islamic issues. -Mkini
