Umno man in viral video claims victim of fake news

Petaling Jaya Selatan (PJS) Umno vice-chief Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim has claimed that he is a victim of false news following a video which went viral on social media.
He said accusations that he was paying foreign citizens to vote BN to change the Selangor government is fake news.
As such, Mutalif, along with an individual who was alleged to be a foreigner in the viral video, Azmi Abdul Malik, have lodged a police report today.
“The government has enacted the Anti-Fake News Act and now I am the first victim. So I implore all Malaysian citizens, do not come up with false stories.
“We Malaysians should be united. If you cannot help, just stay silent.
“I ask the 'gutter-mouthed' opposition (pembangkang yang bermulut longkang) to not make accusations. If you cannot help, please stay away,” Mutalif told reporters after the two men lodged their police reports at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters today.
The video, which went viral yesterday, claimed that Mutalif wanted to pay a sum of RM3,000 to an individual.
Mutalif explained that he was actually giving the money to help Azmi after Azmi’s workshop, which he had owned for nine years, caught on fire last Monday.
Azmi (photo) has three children, two who are sick, and a wife who is not working, he said, so the man needs to work to support his family.
“I was slighted and sad when people said I wanted to help a Bangladeshi.
“Actually, on Monday, his (Azmi) workshop caught fire at 8am and after checks by the firefighter’s forensic, it was caused by a short circuit from a motorcycle’s battery.
“So I was there to help. Azmi has three children; his second child has diabetes and needs insulin and his youngest child who is five months old has a heart problem.
“So imagine, Azmi alone has to work and his wife is a housewife. The shop has burned down and his children are sick.
“He also said he has tried to get a license for the workshop for nine years but the local council won’t give it to him.
“So I said, I am the opposition in the Pakatan (Harapan)-led state, and I said, if you vote BN and let BN rule (Selangor), I can make things easier and bring him to the local council for him to go on with his life,” Mutalif explained.
Meanwhile, Azmi showed his identity card to media to prove that he was not a foreigner.
Azmi, who has lived in Taman Medan since 1990, implored the public not to make his life harder over the incident with the video.
“If you cannot help me, do not impede me. I am struggling to improve myself and my family.
“I hope this thing won’t happen again. Help me, don’t impede me. At least lighten my burden,” he said, in an emotional tone. - Mkini
