Yoursay: Rakyat are boss at ballot box, not MO1, Dr M or TMJ

YOURSAY | ‘Now is the time to walk the talk, and time to separate the talkers from the doers.’
Trueglitter: To say the rakyat is appalled and in great disbelief over Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s unpalatable remarks at particularly former PM and Pakatan Harapan leader Dr Mahathir Mohamad, would be an understatement.
The script-like attack on Mahathir, particularly at a time with the general election drawing so close, has led to the many unanswered questions on the crown prince’s true intent with his agenda.
The said matter has been made all the murkier and unsavoury as the once highly-regarded prince was admired for his integrity.
However, there is no denying of the fact that all royalties must be seen as unambiguously bipartisan without their involvement in the nation’s politics.
The protracted ailments afflicting our beloved nation and its people are far beyond the mere comparison to an unworthy captain and his floundering ship.
Clearly, our country has been held to ransom and the rakyat pauperised by the 1MDB scandal and the blatant abuse of power by PM Najib Abdul Razak and his cohorts and inevitably, has made us a laughing stock in the eye of the international community.
The crown prince has a sworn obligation to stay above politics, but the use of his royal privilege to launch his vitriolic attacks on the much-respected statesman and in the same breath to openly praise Najib, despite his alleged litany of corruption cum abuse of power, would be deemed exceedingly unjustifiable.
OneMalaysia: Yes, Mahathir's 22-year as PM was not all perfect. He has his share of what had gone wrong with Malaysia then. I grew up during those years too.
But the current Umno/BN is no better. In fact, it's worse. Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) has reduced the country's image in the eyes of the world. There is massive corruption and power abuse, and a void of integrity, accountability and justice.
Our public institutions have been compromised and undermined just to keep this one man in power.
The people have lost all avenues to address this situation from further going downhill and save the country (forgive my difference in opinion), and this election is the only way to punish Umno/BN for betraying the trust of the people, and usher in a new Malaysia, hopefully.
That said, we as the people appreciate and value what the Johor crown prince is trying to do for a better Malaysia, but “change from the inside” is easier said than done.
Umno/BN is still the same old coalition/party and will do anything at whatever cost to stay in power, even at the expense of justice and truth. Let the people decide what is best for them and their future generations.
Gerard Lourdesamy: This is a truthful and restrained response from Mahathir. Those disputing history should just read the well-researched entry on the late Al Marhum Sultan Iskandar in Wikipedia.
There are also references there to the present ruler and all the various incidents and controversies. The Hansard of the Dewan Rakyat for 1992 and 1993 will also verify those facts.
Respect and loyalty must be earned and not demanded. Cease ostentatious displays of wealth and power. It is unseemly.
For the rich and powerful, speeding around town in foreign sports cars with a retinue of bodyguards, being rude and offensive to people and in some cases assaulting them or worse, are hardly endearing qualities.
How much wealth and power is ever enough? Can it cure all illness or save you from death? As scripture says, give your riches to the poor and follow the path that leads to God.
Just keep a modest sum for yourself and family but give away the rest. It will bring you peace in this life and a 10-fold reward in heaven.
Anonymous_534b7352: The royalty will always have a place in our beloved country and has the utmost respect of the rakyat by being apolitical. There are many great examples around the world.
At GE14, it is our duty to vote for a change in order to undo all the damages caused by the kleptocratic government so infamous around the world.
Anonymous_1433582288: It’s sad that our champion against 1MDB and MO1 is no longer our champion. Now is the time to walk the talk, and time to separate the talkers from the doers.
Quigonbond: The election is turning out to be like family drama. The cheating husband is desperate to cling on to the wife and children. So he borrows from Ah Long to shower them with holidays, pocket money and gifts.
But every comfort they receive edges them closer to the foreclosure of their family house. Soon, the wife will need to work as a maid in another house, and perhaps the children too.
There's nothing great about a manifesto that does not spell out cold hard truths about where this country is going and how to fix the gapping problems.
We're sliding down the chasm and the democratic pretender tells us we're still soaring.
Anonymous_c9b96c38: When the people are poor, few can see beyond the few ringgit you give them. It doesn’t matter if they have remained in the B40 (bottom 40%) group for the past 60 years despite repeated promises.
And so, the cycle repeats itself at each election and this B40 group remains stuck with their handouts and their B40 status. The B40 group has been a fixed deposit for the government and they not going to change that nor allow this group to get smaller.
Now GE14 presents a real opportunity for them to break their cycle of poverty. What have they got to lose after remaining as B40 for 60 years? Only their B40 status.
Let’s see if they will seize this opportunity to help themselves.
Well Thats Fantastic: It’s typical of politicians - they created this situation where the people need this extra money so they can hand it out and look like they are very concerned with our wellbeing.
Just remember they are the ones who have made these times tough, they have held the federal seat for 60 years and we now need handouts from the government to get by.
This is akin to someone starting a fire and then showing up with a truckload of water. - Mkini
