AZIZAH SAYS IT TOO – ‘HARAPAN WILLING TO WORK WITH ANYONE, INCLUDING THOSE FROM UMNO, IF THEY BECOME ‘INDEPENDENTS’ & TOE NEW LINE: NOT ONLY POLITICAL COMMON SENSE BUT TO CLOSE RANKS & UNITE NATION AFTER THE MOST DIVISIVE ‘MOTHER OF ALL ELECTIONS’

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail agrees with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Umno members should be allowed to join Pakatan Harapan (PH) after being independents.

She said they must, however, support the coalition’s struggles and aspirations.

“We accept anyone who wants to join us. We want all Malaysians to come together to rebuild the nation,” she said after a buka puasa event at Lembah Pantai.

Wan Azizah said while she understood that there were differences of opinion in different parties, those who wanted to join PH had to abide by what PH was aspiring to do, which included living up to promises it had made to the people prior to the election.

“We have reached a point where it is now the rakyat that decides. We must follow through with that.”

Yesterday, Mahathir had contradicted his earlier stance of not allowing Umno members to join the pact.

He was reported as saying that PH received about 1,000 applications a day, the bulk of which were from Umno.
