Anticipating lowering of voting age, PAS told to target teens

PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi today urged the party to mobilise teenagers in anticipation of the voting age being lowered to 18.
Khalil noted that the new Pakatan Harapan government was planning electoral reforms, but did not state whether PAS was prepared to support the necessary constitutional amendments needed for this purpose.
"The voting age today could be lowered (from 21) to 18. This will be a challenge to us, to understand teenagers and youths.
"In the PAS Youth wing, we have a department focusing on teenagers," he told delegates at the 64th PAS muktamar in Kuala Terengganu today.
Khalil, the son of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, urged the department to connect with teenagers.
"I want the department at all levels to ensure they get close to teenagers starting today, in preparation for the 15th general election.
If the Harapan government succeeds in lowering the voting age to 18, and serves its full term, those aged 13 now would qualify to vote for the next general election in 2023. - Mkini
