GEORGE TOWN: Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) will field a candidate in the upcoming Port Dickson by-election, with three names on the shortlist.
Its president Mohd Hashim Saaludin said the party was a “genuine opposition party” without any alliances with mainstream political parties.
“We are entering the race for Port Dickson to raise the issues of the rakyat and to remind the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to fulfil the promises outlined in their manifesto.
“Whether we win or lose does not matter. Ultimately, we want to bring change, check and balance, and justice for the people.”
He said after PH took over Putrajaya, the political and economic arena had become unstable.
“Many policies were introduced without consulting the people.
“We are ready to take on PKR,” he said at a press conference in Butterworth today.
In the May 9 general election, PRM contested seats in Penang, Kedah and Selangor but did not win any.
Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, who won the Port Dickson seat, vacated it to pave the way for PKR president elect Anwar Ibrahim to attempt a return to Parliament before eventually becoming the nation’s eighth prime minister.
Polling day is on Oct 13, with nominations on Sept 29. Early voting will take place on Oct 9.
This will be the first time that Anwar stands - FMT
