KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he will not issue statements on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) as he has claimed trial to 25 charges related to the sovereign wealth fund.
In his Facebook post today, the former prime minister said although the judge had rejected the prosecutors’ bid to stop him from organising or attending public events on the matter, the trial has restricted him from making statements on the subject.
“Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), the judge had rejected the terms and I was released on bail on the same day.
“But with these charges in court, my opportunity to comment and to explain the issue of 1MDB outside the court has been limited.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), I will clear my name soon in court.
“With a fair justice system that upholds the truth, I am confident this is the best chance to put an end to the RM2.6 billion issue that has been going on for so long,” he said.
Last Thursday, Najib was slapped with 25 corruption charges involving about RM2.3 billion, allegedly taken from 1MDB.
His first four charges were under Section 23(1) and 24(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
The other 21 charges were under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (AMLATFA) 2001.
