SELANGOR SULTAN, WHO CLAIMED MAHATHIR’S ‘ANGER WILL BURN THE COUNTRY’ IN RUNUP TO GE14, RE-ENTERS THE FRAY: RULER NOW WARNS MALAYS MAY ‘BECOME SLAVES IN OUR OWN HOMELAND’, HITS OUT AT ‘HANDFUL OF MALAY LEADERS WHO RIDICULE THE COMMUNITY OPENLY WITHOUT SHAME’

SELANGOR’S Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he is saddened by the issue of Malay disunity, which has reached “worrying levels”.
There are many groups claiming to fight for Malays’ interests, but they often criticise one another, said the ruler, likening it to “smudging charcoal on one’s own face”.
The problem is worsened by a handful of Malay leaders who ridicule the community openly without shame, he said.
“Open arguments among Malays are happening everywhere, including on social media and in mainstream media. The slander hurled by one party to another, and the feelings of jealousy, betrayal and hatred displayed, seem to have become a culture among Malays,” said the sultan at a breaking-of-fast event in Shah Alam today.
Sultan Sharafuddin said Malays’ disunity is disappointing as they are Muslims, who should heed the noble values of Islam.
He warned that a continued split within the community could lead to others benefiting from Malays’ troubles.
“Do we want to see Malays one day becoming marginalised, becoming slaves, in our own homeland? Do we want to see Malays colonised in terms of religion, the economy, political power, education, thinking and other aspects of life?
“If we are not careful and continue to fight each other… I believe all the things I mentioned will become a reality.
“Leaders, especially Malay ones, must help Malays effectively, without insulting and calling them names, which can cause the community to lose confidence and become weak.
“Malay leaders should not think only of short-term interests and merely seek popularity within a particular group.
“I am confident if Malays are united and cooperate closely, there are no obstacles that cannot be overcome, and Malays will surely achieve success again, and become a powerful and dignified race.”
