KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen 21 bank accounts and seized two hotels worth RM2 million in an investigation into alleged procurement corruption involving the Royal Malaysian Navy.
A source said the move follows a probe into companies believed to have paid bribes to secure recommendations and appointments for firms linked to a senior navy officer.
The frozen accounts comprise seven corporate and 14 individual accounts containing about RM700,000.
The MACC is also checking with the Accountant General's Department to verify tenders or quotations involving the companies under investigation.
The commission's Intelligence Division has also seized two hotels reportedly owned by the senior officer.
"MACC is currently tracing other assets owned by the suspect and identifying company owners who conspired with the individual," the source said.
MACC Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin confirmed the developments, saying investigators have recorded statements from seven people. - NST
