Tahfiz warden to be charged over caning of 11-year-old

KULIM: A warden of a maahad tahfiz in Sungai Kob, suspected of caning an 11-year-old tahfiz student last September, will be charged at the magistrate's court here today.

The 27-year-old man will be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Media previously reported that police confirmed the incident, which showed a tahfiz student being caned by a man in a video that recently went viral on social media, took place at a maahad tahfiz in Sungai Kob, Kulim, in September last year.

The incident, which occurred on Sept 29 last year, involved an 11-year-old male student and the warden, who is believed to have caned the boy for disturbing other students who were studying.

The student, who resides in Padang Serai, had been enrolled at the maahad tahfiz for about seven months at the time. The incident came to light when the child's parents went to pick him up and noticed bruises on his body.

Following this, the boy's father lodged a police report on Oct 3 last year.
